Karen S. Ammons Named Deputy Chief of Appeals

WASHINGTON - The Internal Revenue Service announced today the selection of Karen S. Ammons as Deputy Chief of Appeals. Appeals serves as the administrative forum for any taxpayer contesting an IRS compliance action.

“Karen has an outstanding background in IRS compliance programs,” said David B. Robison, Chief of Appeals. “It is my privilege to welcome her to the Appeals team.”

Ammons joined the IRS in 1973 in the former Greensboro District. She served as a National Office Analyst in Assistant Commissioner (Examination) and Appeals, which led to her appointment as a Chief of Compliance in the International District and Assistant Chief of Examination in New Jersey. Her most recent assignment there was Director of Field Operations in Heavy Manufacturing and Transportation in the IRS Large and Mid-Size Business Division.

Appeals marks its 75th anniversary this year. It offers fair and impartial assistance to resolve tax controversies without litigation through faster case resolution and additional alternative dispute resolution initiatives designed to accommodate taxpayer needs.
