IRS Sponsors Nationwide Tax Forums

WASHINGTON - Large and small business owners who attend the IRS 1994 Nationwide Tax Forum Conferences and Exhibitions will learn about the recent innovative advances to the federal tax system, how to make business and individual tax filing easier and how to save their businesses time and money.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is sponsoring six conferences throughout the country beginning in July. Each two-day conference will feature twenty separate seminars.

Several seminars highlight the various alternatives to paper processing currently available. Attendees will learn about alternative methods of filing by personal computer, electronic and magnetic media and paying taxes via electronic funds transfer methods. Participants will receive first-hand information from members of tax preparation firms who are active in the Electronic Filing program during the open panel discussion.

One session, IRS in Transition- The Submission Procession Concept, will provide information on the changes in receiving and processing tax return and payment information. Over the next seven years, the IRS will receive more information electronically and will reduce the number of tax return processing centers from the current ten sites to five. These sites will receive, control, image and process paper tax returns, information documents and correspondence. They will also resolve errors that do not require taxpayer contact.

Sessions added to this year's program include:

  • An overview of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Service's efforts to educate employers and the public about EITC and the benefits of the advance EITC payment option.
  • The Wage Reporting Simplification Project co-sponsored by the IRS, Social Security Administration and Department of Labor.
  • The new Corporate Tax Program covering developments such as the joint planning process with large corporate taxpayers.

In addition to the seminars, vendors will display exhibits of computer software and other tax-related services at each conference. The conferences and exhibitions are scheduled in the following cities:

  • Baltimore, MD - July 7 - 8
  • Sacramento, CA - July 20 - 21
  • Albuquerque, NM - August 1 - 2
  • Kansas City, MO - August 22 - 23
  • Orlando, FL - September 1 - 2
  • Salt Lake City, UT - Sept. 19 - 20

Though seminars are free, those wishing to attend are asked to register by calling the IRS 1994 Nationwide Tax Forum on (301) 773-1881. Additionally information on the seminars can be obtained by calling your local IRS Electronic Filing Coordinator at 1-800-829-1040.
