Organizations Win IRS Quality Awards

WASHINGTON - Fifteen organizations received the IRS Quality Supplier Award, for the year 1993, for supplying the Internal Revenue Service with large numbers of error-free information documents. This is the third year that IRS has given the award.

The IRS honors these companies for their outstanding achievement in filing error-free information returns during tax years 1991 and 1992. These returns include the Form 1099 series (interest, dividends, miscellaneous income, etc.). The correct transmission of this data helps taxpayers file more accurate and timely tax returns.

"Quality doesn't happen by accident. These organizations really care about accuracy, and the taxpayers get the benefit," stated Margaret Milner Richardson, Commissioner of Internal Revenue.

The award recipients are:

  • New Jersey Division of Taxation, Trenton, NJ
  • North Carolina Department of Taxation, Raleigh NC
  • Savings and Loan Data Corporation, Cincinnati, OH
  • Comptroller of the Treasury, Annapolis, MD
  • NCR Corporation, Dayton, OH
  • Ohio Bureau of Employment Services, Columbus, OH
  • South Carolina Department of Revenue, Columbia, SC
  • Chevy Chase Savings Bank, Bethesda, MD
  • Texas Employment Commission, Austin, Texas
  • Virginia Department of Taxation, Richmond, VA
  • Louisiana Department of Revenue and Taxation, Baton Rouge, LA
  • New York State Department of Taxation, Albany, NY
  • New York State Department of Labor, Albany, NY
  • Minnesota Department of Finance, St. Paul, MN
  • Data Management Systems, Inc., Hyannis, MA

Each year some 35,000 transmitters file over 728 million information documents, within 287 of these transmitters each filing over 500,000 documents a year. In order to qualify for the Quality Supplier Award, organizations must have filed more than 500,000 documents error-free for tax years 1991 and 1992.

The Quality Supplier Award is just one part of an overall quality plan for the Information Reporting Program (IRP). The plan also includes visiting and assisting transmitters; increasing the number and scope of information reporting seminars; and expanding the availability of the IRP Callsite at the Martinsburg Computing Center to all payors nationwide.
