Tax Break '89 to Air on February 5

WASHINGTON - A special television show to encourage taxpayers to file now will be presented by the Internal Revenue Service. Tax Break '89 will air nationwide on February 5 from 3 to 5 p.m. EST over the Public Broadcasting System.

IRS is producing the Tax Clinic in cooperation with WQED-TV in Pittsburgh. Former NBC-TV newsman Edwin Newman will host the program which will include five panels composed of IRS executives, tax technicians, and private tax-return preparers.

The two-hour special will highlight changes in the tax law and how they affect the treatment of capital gains, the deductibility of medical expenses, catastrophic health insurance, payment of quarterly estimated taxes and the needs of older taxpayers.

Viewers will be able to phone in questions on a toll-free telephone line to IRS specialists throughout the program and for one hour afterward.
