Tax Tables and Tax Rate Schedules

For Tax Years 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006, and 2005: Note these Special Instructions:

2010 Tax Tables for taxable incomes up to $100,000
If your Taxable Income is less than $100,000, you MUST use the Tax Tables.

Use the 2010 Tax Computation Worksheet for Line 44
If your Taxable Income is over $100,000, AND
Do not use the Tax Rate Schedules to figure your tax.

The Tax Rate Schedules are shown only so you can see the tax rate that applies to all levels of taxable income. Instead, see the instructions for line 44 that begin on page 37 of the 2010 1040 instructions book.

Note. If you are required to use the Tax Computation Worksheet to figure the tax on an amount from another form or worksheet, such as the Qualified Dividends and Capital Gain Tax Worksheet, the Schedule D Tax Worksheet, Schedule J, Form 8615, or the Foreign Earned Income Tax Worksheet, enter the amount from that form or worksheet in column (a) of the row that applies to the amount you are looking up. Enter the result on the appropriate line of the form or worksheet that you are completing

2010 Earned Income Tax Credit Tables

2009 Tax Tables for taxable incomes up to $100,000

Use the 2005 Tax Computation Worksheet for Line 44 for taxable incomes over $100,000

Do not use the Tax Rate Schedules to figure your tax. They are shown only so you can see the tax rate that applies to all levels of taxable income. Instead, see the instructions for line 44 that begin on page 37 of the 2005 1040 instructions book.

For Tax Years 2004 and Earlier:

Use the Tax Tables if your taxable income is less than $100,000. If $100,000 or more, use the Tax Rate Schedules.
